Job summary

Wayman Education in West London is seeking a reliable School Caretaker / Site Assistant to join our facilities team at a popular secondary school. You will help keep the site safe, secure, clean and fully operational for pupils, staff and visitors.

The role covers site security, maintenance, health & safety checks, and porterage across the school grounds. A valid Enhanced DBS is preferred, with a supportive environment and steady hours.

Qualifications

• Experience in a caretaker/site assistant, facilities officer, or handyman role is desirable.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards (COSHH, manual handling, working at heights) is important.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Safeguarding checks via DBS as required by the school.

Responsibilities

• Site security: open/close grounds, set alarms, secure gates, perform routine checks.
• General maintenance and repairs: basic DIY, plumbing, carpentry, decorating.
• Health & safety compliance: routine checks including fire alarms and emergency lighting tests.
• Grounds and porterage: move furniture, set up layouts, assist deliveries.
• Escort contractors on-site and ensure safe completion of works.
