Job summary

Palladian Academy Trust is seeking a dedicated School Caretaker to join our Estates team across BANES. The role involves opening and closing school sites, maintenance tasks, and ensuring a safe learning environment.

Part-time, split shifts, 40 weeks per year (term time plus one week). As the first and last face of the school, you’ll interact with pupils, staff, and visitors while upholding high standards of safety and care.

Qualifications

• Experience in site maintenance, caretaking or facilities management.
• Knowledge of health & safety and building compliance requirements.
• Ability to perform DIY tasks such as plumbing, decorating and repairs.
• Strong organisation and ability to prioritise workloads.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Calm under pressure and able to handle emergencies.
• Trustworthy and able to handle confidential information.
• Professional, reliable and committed to high standards.
• Emotional intelligence and handling sensitive situations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure security, safety, and upkeep of school buildings and grounds.
• Open and close school sites.
• Carry out maintenance and repair tasks (plumbing, decorating, repairs).
• Respond promptly to reactive maintenance issues.
• Conduct health and safety checks and ensure compliance.
• Oversee external contractors and RAMS adherence.
• Support estates projects and site improvements.
• Cover absence and support other Trust schools as needed.
• Utilise school holidays for planned maintenance.
