Job summary

Pear Tree High School in Manchester is hiring a Caretaker to maintain the school premises and grounds, ensuring security, safety and cleanliness. The role involves acting as a key holder, monitoring CCTV, and supporting events outside normal hours.

The ideal candidate will have experience in maintenance and be able to work both independently and as part of a team, with good ICT and literacy/numeracy skills. A full driving licence is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in caretaker or similar role with maintenance, cleaning and repair tasks.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety and hygiene regulations; COSHH knowledge desirable.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff, pupils, contractors and visitors.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical ability for manual handling and caretaking duties.
• Good ICT, literacy and numeracy skills with ability to keep accurate records.
• Full driving licence is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• General repairs and site maintenance inside and outside.
• Daily health and safety monitoring, including fire safety checks.
• Security of the school site; act as a key holder and monitor CCTV where applicable.
• Liaise with contractors and monitor compliance with site regulations.
• Supervise cleaning staff and external contractors.
• Grounds maintenance including litter picking and gritting in bad weather.
• Set up for exams and parents' evenings.
