Job summary

New Park Primary Academy in Harrogate is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to maintain a safe, welcoming school environment. This permanent, part-time role covers 20 hours per week (8:00am–12:00pm, Monday to Friday) and reports to the Estates Manager.

You will handle opening/closing, basic repairs, health & safety checks and assist contractors. Northern Star Academies Trust fosters a supportive community; DBS check is required, and visits to the school are welcome.

Qualifications

• Has practical maintenance or caretaking experience.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Good understanding of health and safety practices.
• Organised, reliable and takes pride in work.
• Can build positive working relationships with staff, contractors and visitors.
• Confident using basic IT systems.
• Flexible to support across other Trust sites when required.
• Committed to creating a safe, positive environment for children.

Responsibilities

• Opening and securing school buildings and grounds.
• Acting as a designated key holder.
• Carrying out routine site maintenance and minor repairs.
• Undertaking health and safety compliance checks.
• Maintaining external areas, ensuring they are safe and presentable.
• Supporting contractors on site.
• Moving furniture and equipment as required.
• Receiving deliveries and assisting with site logistics.
• Reporting maintenance issues and helping manage site compliance systems.
• Supporting health, safety and safeguarding commitments.
