Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a reliable and hardworking School Caretaker to join a school in Spalding. This role focuses on keeping the premises safe, clean and well-presented for students, staff and visitors.

You will open/close the site, carry out basic maintenance and DIY tasks, monitor building conditions and support events, while adhering to safeguarding and DBS checks.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Caretaker or in a similar maintenance role.
• Good practical and basic DIY skills.
• Understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Strong communication with staff, students and contractors.

As a School Caretaker, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the site, helping to ensure the school premises and grounds are safe, secure, and well maintained for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Open and close the school premises as required.


• Ensure the school site is safe, secure, and well maintained.


• Carry out basic maintenance, repairs, and general DIY tasks.


• Monitor the condition of the school buildings, facilities, and grounds.


• Report any maintenance or health and safety concerns.


• Support with setting up rooms and facilities for school activities and events.


• Manage deliveries and assist contractors when required.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Previous experience as a Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities Assistant, or in a similar maintenance role.


• Good practical and basic DIY skills.


• An understanding of health and safety procedures.


• The ability to work independently and use their initiative.


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with staff, students, and external contractors.


• Previous experience working in a school or education setting would be desirable but is not essential.
