Job summary

Pertemps Camberley is assisting a reputable special needs school in finding an experienced site operative/caretaker. The role is permanent but part-time (25–30 hours per week) with a 52-week contract, spanning days, evenings or weekends as needed.

You will perform day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and preparations for events across multiple school sites, ensuring a safe, clean, and compliant environment for pupils and staff.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance roles with practical trade skills.
• Willingness to train to gain practical skills.
• Strong initiative and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day site maintenance and caretaking to keep the environment safe and functional.
• Carry out repairs and improvements using carpentry, plumbing, decorating or electrical skills.
• Identify maintenance needs early and act to prevent problems.
• Use trade experience to perform in-house improvements and repairs.
• Assist with setup of learning spaces and event lettings, move furniture as needed.
• Complete fire alarm testing, water temperature logs and building checks.
• Work across school sites and adapt to changing workload.
• Be a visible, proactive presence contributing to safe daily operations.

My client is a reputable special needs school and is looking for an experienced, reliable and professional site operative/school caret taker. Permanent 25-30 hours a week, 52-week contract.

Your Role Will Include:

• Providing day-to-day site maintenance, caretaking and repair services to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment.
• Carrying out repairs and minor improvements using practical or trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, decorating or electrical maintenance.
• Taking the initiative to identify and act on maintenance needs before they become problems - whether it's a loose hinge, a leaking pipe, or a potential hazard.
• Using your trade experience (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrical, decorating) to carry out in-house improvements and repairs.
• Supporting the setup of learning spaces, movement of furniture and equipment, and preparation for events or lettings.
• Completing statutory and mandatory duties including fire alarm testing, water temperature logs, building compliance checks and secure locking procedures.
• Working across school sites and responding flexibly to a varied and evolving workload.
• Being a visible, proactive presence who contributes to the smooth daily running of the school and the safety of pupils and staff.
