Job summary

Guardian Selection Limited is helping a welcoming primary school in Hackney recruit an experienced School Caretaker for the 2026-2027 academic year.

You will secure the site, carry out general maintenance, monitor heating and lighting, support events, and perform health and safety checks to keep the learning environment safe and well maintained. This is a full-time, Monday–Friday role starting September 2026, based in Hackney, with a pay rate of £15.00–£18.00 per hour depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, or Maintenance Operative.
• Good practical DIY and maintenance skills.
• A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.
• The ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• A proactive, reliable, and professional approach.

Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the school site each day.
• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs.
• Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the school grounds.
• Completing routine health and safety inspections.
• Monitoring heating, lighting, and other site services.
• Setting up classrooms and halls for school events.
• Liaising with contractors and reporting maintenance issues.
• Assisting with deliveries and general site duties.
• Undertaking basic outdoor maintenance, including litter picking and gardening.
• Supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the school premises.
