Job summary

The Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Catering Assistant to join the school catering unit. You will actively participate in daily operations under the guidance of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor, providing a hygienic service and supporting sales within the unit.

Key duties include food preparation, simple cooking, serving meals, maintaining dining areas, and adhering to relevant legislation and school values.

Qualifications

• Clear evidence of ability to work in a school catering environment.
• Ability to handle food safely and hygienically.
• Willingness to undertake job-related training.
• Experience in customer service is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Basic preparation of food and beverages, including vegetables and snacks using appropriate equipment.
• Simple cooking and reconstitution of prepared food.
• Organising and controlling food service points.
• Transferring and serving meals and snacks including transported meals.
• Assisting with the promotion of meals to pupils, parents and principal.
• Maintaining regular contact with the central kitchen regarding service delivery.
• Preparing the dining area and setting tables, chairs, benches and serving points.
• Cleaning the dining room, kitchen/servery and equipment; washing up and clearing away.
• Recording temperatures for control purposes and securing premises as required.
• Carrying out duties in line with legislation, codes of practice and school values.
