Job description

Help Shape the Bus Network Across West Yorkshire

As we continue building Go West Yorkshire, we’re looking for an experienced Schedules & Network Manager to lead the planning, scheduling and optimisation of our franchised bus services.

This is an opportunity to join our founding team and play an important role in creating a reliable, efficient and customer-focused network. You’ll work closely with WYCA, operational teams and colleagues across the business to develop workable schedules, improve service delivery and support our contractual commitments.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work closely with our Commercial, Operations, Engineering and Finance teams to:

  • Develop cost-effective timetables, bus workings, duties and rosters.
  • Work with WYCA Service Planners to test, validate and cost proposed network changes.
  • Review schedules and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability and service delivery.
  • Analyse and clearly present the cost and operational implications of proposed schedule changes.
  • Monitor bus and driver hours, mileage and peak vehicle requirements.
  • Develop practical and cost-effective schedules for zero-emission buses.
  • Use historic bus-tracking data, including CitySwift, to support punctuality improvements.
  • Prepare schedule data within the company mileage system.
  • Support the accurate and timely publication of schedules and ticket-machine data.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of timetable and schedule information across internal and external systems.
  • Provide scheduling expertise for franchise bids, mobilisation activity and wider commercial projects.
  • Work with operational colleagues to make sure schedules are practical, compliant and considerate of driver retention.
What we’re looking for

We’re keen to hear from individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Considerable experience using bus scheduling software to produce timetables, bus workings, duties and rosters.
  • Strong knowledge of UK domestic drivers’ hours and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • An analytical and logical approach to complex scheduling information.
  • Experience creating cost-effective schedules while balancing operational and customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of the West Yorkshire bus network, or a commitment to developing this knowledge.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of the importance of accurate data.
  • The ability to explain complex scheduling information clearly and simply.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Experience working collaboratively across commercial, operational, engineering and finance teams.
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • A customer-focused approach and a commitment to working in partnership with WYCA.
  • Knowledge of HASTUS would be beneficial, but it isn’t essential.

This is more than a scheduling role. It’s an opportunity to help build a new bus company from the ground up.

As part of our founding team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the network, influence how services are delivered and contribute directly to a reliable and customer-focused bus operation across West Yorkshire.

You’ll join an organisation that values:

What You’ll Get in Return

Alongside a salary of £45-50,000, you’ll benefit from:

  • 38 hours per week with a working pattern that supports operational requirements
  • Company pension scheme
  • Free travel
  • Employee Assistance Programme
