Job summary

Experis IT in New Malden, London, is seeking an SC Cleared Principal Mechanical Engineer for an initial 6-month contract with a potential extension. The role pays up to £500 per day via an approved umbrella company and requires SC clearance eligibility.

You will own mechanical solutions end-to-end—from concept and analysis through design sign-off, documentation, and support to testing—in a secure environment for a reputed client. Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

• SC clearance eligible or in process.
• Experience leading mechanical design end-to-end.
• Strong documentation and BOM management.
• Ability to act as Design Authority when required.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design engineering as a technical SME, analysing designs and justifying component selection.
• Deliver Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Thermal Analysis (CFD) to support robust mechanical solutions.
• Resolve mechanical issues across hardware design, development, manufacture, integration and qualification.
• Produce, review and approve mechanical technical documentation including drawings and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Sign off mechanical designs and help ensure the mechanical team conform to applicable processes during design, development and build.
• Support testing and qualification where required, and help verify/validate mechanical requirements through technical documents.
• Manage mechanical baseline and change control activities in line with Configuration Management (CM) processes.
• Raise and manage mechanical design risks and support Technical Queries (TQs) for ratification.
• Act as a delegated mechanical Design Authority (DA) when required, and supervise/project lead other engineers as needed.
• Serve as a customer, supplier and manufacturer mechanical technical point of contact-liaising confidently to keep projects moving.
• Report progress to Project/Programme Managers and the Hardware Manager, and assist with estimates and process improvement.
