Job summary

Experis is seeking a SC Cleared Principal Mechanical Engineer for a 6-month contract in New Malden, London. The role involves end-to-end mechanical solution ownership, from concept through design sign-off, documentation, and testing, with a clearance requirement and a daily rate up to £500.

The successful candidate will lead mechanical design as a technical SME, deliver FEA/CFD analyses, manage documentation and BOMs, and coordinate with customers and suppliers to keep projects moving.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design engineering as a technical SME, analysing designs and justifying component selection.
• Deliver FEA and CFD analyses to support robust mechanical solutions.
• Resolve mechanical issues across hardware design, development, manufacture, integration and qualification.
• Produce, review and approve mechanical documentation including drawings and BOMs.
• Sign off mechanical designs and ensure compliance with processes during design, development and build.
• Support testing and qualification and verify/validate mechanical requirements through technical documents.
• Manage mechanical baseline and change control per CM processes.
• Raise and manage mechanical design risks and support TQs for ratification.
• Act as delegated mechanical Design Authority and supervise other engineers as needed.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and manufacturers to keep projects moving.
• Report progress to Project/Programme Managers and the Hardware Manager, and assist with estimates and process improvement.

Rate: Up to £500 per day via an approved umbrella company
Must be willing and eligible to go through the SC Clearance process

What you'll be doing:

• Lead mechanical design engineering as a technical SME, analysing designs and justifying component selection
• Deliver Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Thermal Analysis (CFD) to support robust mechanical solutions
• Resolve mechanical issues across hardware design, development, manufacture, integration and qualification
• Produce, review and approve mechanical technical documentation including drawings and Bills of Materials (BOM)
• Sign off mechanical designs and help ensure the mechanical team conform to applicable processes during design, development and build
• Support testing and qualification where required, and help verify/validate mechanical requirements through technical documents
• Manage mechanical baseline and change control activities in line with Configuration Management (CM) processes
• Raise and manage mechanical design risks and support Technical Queries (TQs) for ratification
• Act as a delegated mechanical Design Authority (DA) when required, and supervise/project lead other engineers as needed
• Serve as a customer, supplier and manufacturer mechanical technical point of contact-liaising confidently to keep projects moving
• Report progress to Project/Programme Managers and the Hardware Manager, and assist with estimates and process improvement

What you'll bring:

Additional information:

• Experience or understanding of shock, vibration, EMC and climatic testing is beneficial
• Familiarity with defence programmes, and/or naval Platform Management Systems (PMS) for surface and sub-surface programmes, is advantageous
