The opportunity

Are you an experienced Sales Manager with a background in events, construction, infrastructure or another project-led industry?

An established international organisation is looking for a commercially focused Sales Manager to join its team in St Ives. The company delivers specialist project solutions for major clients across the UK and internationally.

This is not a traditional high-volume or cold-calling sales role. You will manage a longer, consultative sales process involving detailed client requirements, commercial estimating, formal tenders and complex project proposals. Once secured, contracts can run for several years, so you will combine new business development with long-term account management and relationship building.

What will you be doing?
  • Managing incoming enquiries and identifying suitable new business opportunities
  • Understanding complex client requirements and developing tailored commercial solutions
  • Preparing accurate estimates, quotations, project costings and margin analysis
  • Managing and contributing to formal bids and tender submissions
  • Working with operational, technical, procurement, finance and project teams to validate costs
  • Ensuring proposed solutions are competitive, achievable and profitable
  • Negotiating pricing, contractual terms and commercial agreements
  • Managing longer sales cycles involving high-value projects
  • Developing strong relationships with new and existing clients
  • Maintaining client relationships throughout multi-year contracts
  • Identifying opportunities to grow and develop existing accounts
  • Monitoring supplier costs, market conditions and competitor activity
  • Maintaining accurate quotation, tender and sales pipeline records
  • Supporting the handover of successful projects to operational teams
What are we looking for?
  • At least five years' experience in sales, business development or commercial account management
  • A background in events or construction is preferred
  • Experience in infrastructure, equipment rental, modular solutions, technical services or another project-led environment would also be considered
  • Proven experience preparing estimates, quotations, bids or tenders
  • Strong commercial awareness, including margins, profitability and pricing risk
  • Experience managing complex, consultative sales cycles
  • Confidence developing and maintaining senior client relationships
  • The ability to turn detailed client briefs into practical commercial proposals
  • Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using CRM or contract-management systems
  • A full UK driving licence and valid passport
  • Flexibility for occasional client visits, overnight stays and international travel
Why apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to move away from high-volume sales and take ownership of substantial, project-led opportunities. You will work closely with experienced commercial and operational colleagues, developing solutions for major clients and building relationships that can continue for several years.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

Commercial Sales Manager, Business Development Manager, Project Sales Manager, Event Sales Manager, Sales and Estimating Manager, Construction Sales Manager, Technical Sales Manager, Rental Sales Manager, Bid Manager or Commercial Manager.
