Thinking about becoming a teacher but want to gain some real classroom experience first?

Our two-year Salaried Teacher Training Programme at a supportive secondary school in Cambridge gives you the chance to earn a salary, work in a school and develop your skills before moving into formal teacher training.

You’ll spend your first year as a Cover Supervisor, working with pupils and experienced teachers. In your second year, you’ll progress into teacher training and work towards your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • A salary of £23,000–£27,000 from the start
  • Two years working in the same school community
  • Hands-on experience working with secondary-age pupils
  • Support and mentoring from experienced teachers
  • Fully funded teacher training
  • The opportunity to gain a PGCE and QTS
  • A clear route into a long-term teaching career
Year 1 – Gain Experience

As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll supervise lessons, support pupils and get to know how a secondary school works. You’ll build your confidence, develop classroom management skills and work alongside experienced teachers.

Year 2 – Train to Teach

Once you’ve built up your classroom experience, you’ll move into a trainee teacher role. You’ll plan and teach your own lessons, assess pupil progress and work closely with a mentor while completing your PGCE and working towards QTS.

This could be a great opportunity if you’re a graduate, considering a career change or already have experience working with young people.

You’ll need:

  • A genuine interest in teaching and working with young people
  • Good communication and organisation skills
  • A positive, reliable and resilient approach
