Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our thriving GP practice team. We are seeking a highly motivated and driven doctor eager for a new challenge and the chance to make a meaningful impact within our expanding practice.

Derby Road Health Centre is a GMS training practice inLenton, Nottingham.

We are looking to appoint an additional GP for up to 6sessions per week. Sessions required are Monday's, Wednesdays & Thursday's, all day.

We currently have a list size of just short of 13000 patients, thisis likely to increase due to housing developments locally. We completed a 6 clinical room extension, to our purpose builtpremises in April 2021 to give additional capacity. Our practice population is diverse which makes thepractice an interesting place to work. We currently have 3 partners, 5 salariedGPs and a full complement of ancillary staff, including 2 highly experienced nurse practitioners who support with urgent on the day problems.

Derby Road Health Centre is a primary care research practice with plans to expand our research activity over the coming years.

We share premises with an independent pharmacy, and haveample staff and patient parking available.

Main duties of the job

The GP will be expected to:

Fulfil their share of Routine & Urgent appointments,share of visits routine & emergency; sign a share of repeat prescriptionseach day.

Accept responsibility & time-manage completion ofadministration: letter, results, referrals, telephone calls and home visits;

Take responsibility for appropriate referrals, meet targetsfor QOF as part of day to day role.

Complete a share of child protection, insurance & DWPreports & medicals attend Mental Health Sections, attend Child Protectionreviews where appropriate.

All doctors are expected to participate in the on-call rota.

About us

We are a training practice for GP Registrars and F2's and westrive to make the practice a good place to work by valuing and developing ourstaff. We have have a strong team culture with a clear focus on staff wellbeing. Several of our staff have worked beyond retirement age and 2 of oursalaried GPs were previously trainees at the practice.

We currently employ a further 21 administration / receptionstaff, 4 nurses, a HCA and a phlebotomist plus 3 managerial staff. We are anactive member of our PCN (PCN City South) and have several additional ARRS staff working in practice whichinclude a clinical pharmacist prescriber, a pharmacy technician, 3 social prescribers, 2 physiotherapists and a mental health nurse. We offer rooms for additional services such as seated exercise class, AAA screening, anddiabetic retinopathy out reach clinic along with ultrasound clinics.

Job responsibilities

The GP will be expected to:

  • Fulfil their share of Routine and Urgent appointments. Prescribe as per local & national guidelines
  • Accept a share of visits routine and emergency;
  • Accept responsibility and time-manage completion of administration: letter, results, referrals, telephone calls and home visits;
  • Accept and manage a share of queries relating to patients;
  • Take responsibility for appropriate referrals (following local guidance and good medical practice) and administration pertaining to them, bearing in mind that referrals will be involved in a peer review process;
  • Meet targets for QOF as part of day to day role;
  • Sign a share of repeat prescriptions each day ;
  • Complete a share of child protection, insurance & DWP reports & medicals;
  • Attend Mental Health Sections. This would be ideally carried out by the GP who knows the patient best, where possible, otherwise responsibility lies with the On Call doctor at the time when the call is received;
  • Attend Child Protection reviews where appropriate (sessions will be backfilled with locum cover as necessary);
  • Complete cremation forms and death certificates, bearing in mind that some GPs may not yet be able to complete Part 2 of the cremation form;
  • Cover for colleagues in exceptional circumstances such as sudden illness, taking into account the individual doctors external commitments such as childcare.

The role of the On Call Doctor

All doctors will be expected to fulfil their routine responsibilities as detailed above during an On Call session.

The On Call doctor should be prepared to:

  • Field & manage queries from reception, admin & nursing staff/healthcare assistants on an ad hoc basis.
  • See patients in both pre-booked and on the day/urgent appointments.
  • Contact patients for scheduled telephone appointments and take urgent telephone calls from patients and liaise with other healthcare professionals as required.
  • Visits before twelve are routine & to be shared between all doctors. Visit requests after 12.30pm triaged by the on-call GP as urgent for that day or as routine for the following day.
  • Be present in the building unless on a visit, when they should be contactable by mobile phone in the event of an emergency. The individual doctors should be responsible for having a mobile phone fully charged.
