Job summary

Cheffins is seeking a Rural Surveyor to join its Rural Department in Ely. You will work as part of a small team of surveyors, providing advice to farmers, landowners and rural businesses, and managing your own client workload.

Ideally you will have at least 5 years post-qualification experience and be CAAV qualified or working towards CAAV. A strong knowledge of the local area and property market, along with excellent organisational and communication skills, is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and support to farmers, landowners and rural businesses.
  • Manage your own client portfolio and diverse workload.
  • Undertake rural professional work including valuations, rural agency, and energy/diversification schemes.
  • Attend client meetings on and off site and report actions/fees to clients.
  • Liaise with clients’ advisers (lawyers, accountants) as required; negotiate sales/lettings and prepare heads of terms.
  • Collaborate with Planning & Development and Rural Grants/Subsidies teams.

Job description

We are looking for a Rural Surveyor to join our Rural Department, working as part of a well‑established team of 3 surveyors within our Ely office. You’ll be based in the beautiful cathedral city of Ely, Cambridgeshire, and become part of our wider team of 26 dedicated professionals.

Your role in the team would be:

Providing advice and support to a wide range of farmers,landowners and rural businesses, with a responsibility for managing your own clients and diverse workload which could include:

Dealing with rural professional work, valuations, rural agency (sales and lettings), infrastructure/energy and rural diversification schemes.

Attending client meetings (both on and off site), reporting to clients with recommended actions/fees, acting upon and managing instructions, liaising with clients professional advisers (lawyers and accountants) where required, negotiating sales/lettings and preparing heads of terms.

Working with other departments at Cheffins on Planning & Development advice, Rural Grants/Subsidies

Providing input into business development/publications/events as part of the rural team.

What we are looking for:

Ideally, the successful candidate would have at least 5 years post qualification experience and should be CAAV qualified or working towards their CAAV qualification.

It would be great if you have a good knowledge of the local area and property market.

The successful candidate will be involved in a diverse range of professional work including the sale and purchase of rural property, the valuation of a wide range of rural property types, letting and management of agricultural land including Contract Farming Agreements and compulsory purchase and compensation matters.

Strong organisational skills and an ability to provide clear advice

Strong communication and ability to establish strong interpersonal relationships with team members, clients and other professionals

Ability to meet demands and deadlines

High level of accuracy

Commitment to delivering a high standard of service

Full UK Driving Licence and use of own car, which is insured for business use
