West Yorkshire Police, the lead Force for RSSS , is looking to recruit four Identification Officers. Three of the vacancies are in the specialist role of Fingerprint Identification and one vacancy is in the specialist role of Footwear Identification.

The available positions present an excellent opportunity to pursue a career in Forensic Identification. The principal purpose of the role is to forensically analyse, compare and identify fingerprint/footwear marks that have been recovered from crime scenes.

The successful applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to conduct fine detail comparisons and quality assurance checks, have excellent communication skills, possess a high level of personal responsibility and be able to provide exceptional service delivery to the region of Yorkshire and the Humber.

Relevant experience is not necessary as this excellent opportunity is coupled with a comprehensive training programme. The successful applicants will usually be appointed on the bottom pay scale point with career progression competency based and assessed. Subject to approval, successful candidates with previous identification skills, experience and knowledge may enter at a higher pay scale point.

After appropriate training, the role holder will be required to assist in a range of associated technical duties related to their discipline. This may include (but is not limited to) delivering presentations to Police colleagues, assisting with training, the taking of footwear impressions, fingerprints and DNA samples. Appointed candidates will be required to demonstrate competence in all standard operating procedures, in accordance with the relevant Quality Management systems. This is to ensure organisational conformance with the standards required by the UK Forensic Science Regulator.

Salary Scale:

Initial level Scale 4: £27,204 to £29,859 per annum

Advanced level Scale 6: £33,603 to £35,772 per annum

Hours of work are Monday to Friday, on a flexi-time basis, between the hours of 7am and 7pm with the expectation the Identification Bureau core office hours are covered.

Prior to selection for interview, applicants will be required to take an aptitude test to assess comparison skills.

Due to the nature of the role, appointed candidates will be required to provide biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police Elimination Databases for routine speculative searching purposes.

For roles which are advertised as Career Progression Schemes, individuals will be appointed to the bottom scale point of the appropriate grade within the scheme, based on the role entry requirements. Full progression through the scheme may be subject to attaining a specific qualification or successfully passing an assessment or review .
