Brief Description

Lead investigations into serious accidents, incidents, environmental issues, and major performance loss events by examining evidence to establish causes and recommend improvements to health, safety, and environmental performance.

About the role

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Act as lead Investigator in serious investigations, delivering high-standard reports within remit timescales.
  2. Develop relationships with route-based competent persons and investigators, providing advice and sharing best practices.
  3. Manage responses to queries regarding investigation reports.
  4. Establish relationships with external organizations, fostering respect for investigations led by Network Rail.
  5. Coach local accident investigators and support implementation of recommendations.
  6. Review reports and data to assess assurance process performance.
  7. Produce reviews and reports on trends, audits, and investigation findings.
  8. Promote a culture of fairness in investigations.
  9. Undertake safety assurance activities, including on-site verifications.
Essential Criteria
  • Member of IOSH at TechIOSH level or above
  • Knowledge of investigation techniques
  • Understanding of railway operations, safety, and environmental management
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Logical and analytical thinking, proficient in computer skills
Desirable Criteria
  • Level 6 NEBOSH or Degree or equivalent
  • Influencing skills
  • Data analysis and insights knowledge
