Key Responsibilities
- Work within NMC codes of practice and professional guidelines.
- Work autonomously within Trust guidelines and the sphere of professional practice with reference to the departmental manager as appropriate.
- Maintain revalidation requirements and meet with the named Supervisor of Midwives for an annual review.
- Provide effective and visible clinical leadership.
- Advocate for and support the rights of women to make informed choices about their care.
- Promote equality, diversity, and rights.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to junior colleagues and student midwives.
- Undertake all mandatory training required by the Trust and specific to midwifery practice.
- Act up for the departmental ward manager/team leader in their absence.

Main Duties of the Job
- Facilitate women's involvement in decision-making regarding pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care.
- Demonstrate organizational skills in planning clinical workload.
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based midwifery care throughout the maternity pathway.
- Work collaboratively to ensure seamless care for women and their families.
- Recognize deviations from normality and escalate appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with women, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Manage expectations of women and their families.
- Identify and act on safeguarding issues for women, unborn, and children.
- Support team development and effective team working.
- Maintain knowledge of clinical equipment used in Maternity services.
- Understand and contribute to the Trust's Risk Management policy.
- Contribute to audits and statistical evidence for MLU activity.

Qualifications
- Registered nurse and/or midwife
- Evidence of high standards and knowledge of evidence-based midwifery care through CPD and experience
- Level 3 Child protection training, with knowledge of child protection, domestic violence, substance misuse, and women with special needs
- NMC UK Pin
- NIPE trained
- Enhanced maternity care experience
- Experience on a Midwifery Led unit
Experience
- Involvement in protocol development and clinical audits
- Ability to manage emergencies in the absence of medical staff
- Knowledge of Child Protection policies and legislation
Skills
- Ability to handle complex obstetric and medical situations
- Effective communication skills, especially in complaints and referrals
- Good group teaching and knowledge sharing skills
