Job description

At UHCW, we deliver around 6,000 babies annually. Women can choose to birth in the obstetric-led unit, Lucina the alongside midwifery-led unit, or in the community, including at home.

Our midwives have the opportunity to maintain their skills across all areas with our rotational programme, which includes care in various settings. We also offer dedicated specialist teams such as Enhanced Maternal Care, Complex Care Continuity Team, maternal medicine support, perinatal mental health clinics, preterm prevention, and Continuity of Carer programs, including support for women from diverse cultural backgrounds in collaboration with the Coventry MAMTA Project Centre.

Band 5 Midwives will be supported by our award-winning Clinical Preceptor Support Midwives (CPSMs), who will assign a named preceptor for pastoral support. Our team of 9 Professional Midwifery Advocates (PMAs), led by a Lead PMA, provides restorative clinical supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Accountable for own actions per the Code of Professional Conduct and contributing to organizational objectives within policies and guidelines.

  7. Act as ward manager in the absence of the ward manager (Band 6 only).
  8. Demonstrate advanced technical skills for patient management, including monitoring, equipment handling, and invasive procedures.
  9. Develop staff through mentorship and appraisal.
  10. Utilize IT systems to ensure accurate and timely data management.
  11. Manage clinical events with varying physical effort based on patient needs.
  12. Support patients and carers during difficult situations, including delivering bad news or managing unexpected events.
  13. Participate in teaching and parenthood preparation sessions.
  14. Understand and implement Child Protection strategies.
  15. Maintain a safe, clean environment adhering to hygiene and infection control standards.
  16. Promote safety policies to protect staff and patients.
  17. Participate in the on-call rota to support home births and adhere to escalation policies.
