Job summary

Mears Group in Birmingham is seeking a skilled Roofer to deliver repairs and maintenance across social housing properties. You will perform roofing repairs, planned maintenance and emergency call-outs, ensuring homes stay safe, weatherproof and compliant.

Strong workmanship, health & safety, and tenant communication are essential. Role requires a UK driving licence and willingness to be part of the Property Services team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Carry out roofing repairs and maintenance across Birmingham.
  • Replace roof tiles, battens, felt, flat roofs and leadwork.
  • Install and repair guttering, downpipes, fascias and roof vents.
  • Respond to emergency roofing issues and storm damage.
  • Identify defects and recommend remedial actions.
  • Record work completed and time spent accurately.

Roofer
Location:Birmingham
Contract: Full Time Permanent
Salary up to £35,000 per annum, plus, company van & fuel card
42.5 hours per week (8-5 Monday- Friday)
About the role:

We are looking for a skilled Roofer to join our Birmingham contract, delivering repairs and maintenance services across occupied and void social housing properties. Working as part of our Property Services team, you will undertake a range of roofing repairs, planned maintenance works and emergency call-outs, ensuring homes remain safe, secure and weatherproof. This is a customer-facing role that requires a high standard of workmanship, a strong focus on health and safety, and excellent communication skills.

  • Carry out roofing repairs and maintenance to occupied and void properties across Birmingham.
  • Repair and replace roof tiles, battens, felt roofing, flat roofs, chimneys and leadwork.
  • Install and repair guttering, downpipes, fascias, soffits and roof ventilation systems.
  • Respond to emergency roofing issues, including storm damage and roof leaks.
  • Identify roofing defects and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
  • Support planned maintenance and refurbishment programmes.
  • Accurately record work completed, materials used and time spent on jobs.
  • Communicate effectively with tenants, colleagues and supervisors to minimise disruption.
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety requirements, the Decent Homes Standard and company procedures.
Role Criteria:
  • General roofing repairs across occupied and void properties
  • Replacement of roof tiles, felt roofing, and wooden battens
  • Chimney repairs and replacements
  • Installation and repair of flat roofs, including felt and asphalt systems
  • Lead work including flashings, soakers, and valley gutters
  • Repair and installation of ridge tiles, verge tiles, and hip tiles
  • Guttering and downpipe repairs and replacements
  • Fascia, soffit, and barge board installation and maintenance
  • Roof insulation works to joists and rafters
  • Installation and repair of roof vents, eaves ventilation, and ducting
  • Repairs to rooflights and skylights
  • Emergency call-outs to make properties safe following storm damage or leaks
  • Identification of defects and recommendation of remedial actions
  • Working with reclaimed roofing materials where appropriate
  • Ensuring all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety regulations
  • Accurate recording of materials used and time spent on jobs
  • Liaising with tenants and site supervisors to ensure clear communication and minimal disruption
  • Supporting planned maintenance programmes and refurbishment projects
  • Ensuring compliance with the Decent Homes Standard and other regulatory requirements
  • UK full driving license
