Job summary

On Track Group Ltd is seeking a Validation and Verification Technician to support the New Fleet Introduction. You will ride newly introduced trains across the network, observe performance against standards, and log results to inform commissioning.

The role is field-based, involves safety-critical duties, and requires being the on-train point of contact with crew and engineers. A fixed-term contract through 31 March 2027 with competitive hourly rates.

Qualifications

• Must hold NVQ 3 or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Ride newly introduced trains in service across the network, observing and recording how the fleet performs against expected standards.
• Witness tests carried out by OEM Engineers or third party suppliers.
• Monitor key systems on board — traction, braking, doors, HVAC, PIS, CCTV, and cab equipment — and log anomalies or deviations.
• Report faults, deficiencies, and observations accurately into the fleet management system to support the wider engineering and commissioning team.
• Act as the on-train point of contact between train crew, depot engineers, network control, and the OEM's technical representatives.
• Witness and record test runs, feeding results into the formal commissioning and acceptance record.
• Note patterns and trends in performance data, escalating concerns to the Fleet Introduction Manager or manufacturer as required.
• Attend debrief sessions and contribute to daily and weekly fleet performance reports.

Rolling Stock Validation and Verification technician – New Fleet Introduction

Contract: To 31st March 2027

£29.00 per hour day rate

£35.00 night rate

Shift: 6-days (Monday-Saturday) on a three week shift rotation (Shift pattern available upon application)

On Track Group is a leading provider of maintenance and servicing solutions for rolling stock in the UK. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Validation and Verification Technician to join our team in Taffs Wells. This is position expected to last until 31 March 2027 and will be paid at a rate of £29 - £35 per hour for 3-week shift pattern rotation.

A field-based, safety-critical role riding new trains across the network during trial running and early passenger service, acting as the on-board eyes and ears for the fleet introduction programme.

What you'll be doing:
