Job summary

Unipart in Cambridge/Nuneaton is seeking a Robotics Software Engineer to contribute to the software development and testing of our Autonomous Mobile Robots and Fleet Management System, supporting live operation on-site and remotely.

You will design and deploy performance-optimised vision processing and localisation algorithms, and work with hardware interfaces including CANopen and SocketCAN while collaborating with AMR stakeholders to meet customer SLAs.

Qualifications

• ROS/ROS 2 experience with lifecycle nodes and state-machine-driven controllers.
• Proficient in Modern C++ and Python 3.
• Working knowledge of mobile robotics.
• Version control using Git.
• High initiative and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to work independently and in a high-performance team.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Hardware interfacing: SocketCAN and CANopen.
• MQTT and WebSockets / Rosbridge for integrating FMS with WCS/PLCs.
• Experience with multi-robot path planning (A*, graph routing, conflict resolution).
• UART/USB serial comms, custom MCU protocols, Arduino-based integration.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site support for live operations to meet SLAs (Nuneaton).
• Develop, maintain, optimise and test software for AMR and FMS.
• Design and deploy vision processing and localisation algorithms.
• Hardware interfacing and troubleshooting industrial protocols.
• Collaborate with AMR stakeholders and follow business processes.
