Job summary

Octane Recruitment Limited is seeking a Roadside Technician (field based) to provide roadside assistance for a national breakdown company. The role is Bristol-based with a salary of £36,400 and OTE up to £60,000, plus benefits.

You will attend breakdowns, perform mechanical and electrical roadside repairs, use diagnostic tools, and guide members through next steps. A full UK driving licence with ≤6 points is required, and you’ll work 40 hours weekly with shifts arranged in advance.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 or Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Minimum 2-year post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, in a workshop or mobile role.
• Full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Location: Bristol

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: Up to £60,000

Job type: Permanent / Full time role

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role
40 hours per week between 6am and 12pm, Monday to Sunday. Shifts known 4 months in advance. Flexi and / or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home, as soon as you start the van.

What you'll need to a be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum of Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair or ideally Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent)
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands on experience with vehicles. Either in a workshop or mobile vehicle type role.
