Job summary

The AA is hiring a Roadside Rescue Mechanic in the UK. You will join a team that helps motorists get back on the road quickly, often working independently across varied locations while remaining part of a supportive network.

You’ll use your technical knowledge, drive a van, and communicate clearly to create a positive experience for members. The role includes flexible shift patterns, 40-hour weeks, and benefits designed to support your lifestyle and career growth.

Qualifications

• NVQ3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent experience.
• Full category B driving licence with 6 points or less.
• Comfort with using new technology and tools provided.

Responsibilities

• Starting and finishing on your driveway, paid from entry to return.
• Work independently across varied locations while being part of a team.
• Use technical knowledge and clear communication to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Resolve roadside issues on the spot with a calm, capable approach.

Shifts

As a patrol you will work on average 40 hour week with a variety of shift pattern options available, you have the flexibility to choose a schedule that best suits your personal and professional needs. The number of rest days you enjoy each year, as well as the length of your shifts will vary based on the shift pattern you select.

Roadside Rescue Mechanic

As our Roadside Rescue Mechanic, you’ll go the extra mile for our members. Anything can happen whilst driving, but we are the AA and we get everyone back on the road safely so the show can on. More importantly you’ll be the friendly face of the UK’s largest motoring organisation. To our members, you’re the superhero. Ready for anything, you’ll be there for them, anytime, anywhere and in any weather. You’ll get their day moving again, forging confidence for drivers now and for the future.

What will I be doing

• Starting and finishing on your driveway paid from the moment you get in your van to the moment you get home.
• Working independently across varied locations and conditions, while remaining a valued part of a supportive team.
• Using your technical knowledge and clear communication to help ensure a positive customer experience.
• Solving problems on the spot, using your technical skills and calm approach to handle a wide range of roadside situations.

What do I need

• NVQ3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent qualifications with appropriate experience
• It’s essential that you have a full category B driving licence, with 6 points or less
• Confidence using and adapting to new technology we’ll provide the tools, you bring the curiosity.
• Flexibility to work shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays because breakdowns don’t stick to a schedule.
