Job summary

RAC is hiring a Roadside Technician to deliver expert roadside repairs, diagnostics and breakdown support across the UK from your home base. You’ll respond to calls in your local area, getting members back on the road quickly.

You can start and finish at home, with your RAC van, diagnostic kit and tools provided. Depending on experience, base pay is £42,921.87 with an OTE of £43,000–£53,000 and enhanced overtime for top performers.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical roadside repair and diagnostics.
• Deliver emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Work from home base and respond to local member calls.
• Utilise diagnostic kit and tools to fix faults on-site.
• Ensure high levels of customer service during call-outs.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Harlow cluster, covering areas like Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Waltham Abbey, Epping, Hoddesdon.We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need...

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.The RAC has been a trusted name for over 125 years, combining heritage with innovation.
