At Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital, the RN in OR administers patient care in an environment where patients come for treatment and typically return home the same day, or care takes place in a post-acute transitional care setting.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Utilize the unique knowledge, skills, and competencies required in ambulatory care nursing practice to promote wellness, restore health, address health-related situational problems, and support end-of-life care.
- Assess patients’ needs and apply current ambulatory care nursing knowledge and evidence-based practices when developing individualized care plans.
- Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit, demonstrating relevant knowledge and skills.
- Understand principles of growth and development over the lifespan, assess patient data, and interpret information to meet age-specific needs.
- Prescribe, delegate, coordinate, and document patient care, including assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety.
- Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit-specific requirements.
- Prioritize patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
- Identify and resolve problems effectively.
- Delegate tasks to healthcare team members according to patient needs and team members’ capabilities and qualifications.
- Communicate patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members appropriately.
- Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients and families.
- Incorporate patient and family education throughout care delivery.
- Participate in process improvement activities as assigned.
- Be aware of legal issues, patients’ rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with hospital policies and applicable laws.
- Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- Graduate of an approved nursing school.
- Meet all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for the hospital and department.
Licensure/Certification
- Maintain current RN licensure in Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
- Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas.
Experience
- At least 1 year of experience required unless approved by AVP level or above.
