Job description

Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital provides and documents individualized patient care, including patient evaluation, education, medication administration, IV therapy, treatments, and patient safety, under the supervision of the RN or healthcare provider.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrate competency in advanced practical nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit-specific skills.
  2. Communicate appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and other healthcare team members.
  3. Assist RN or provider during examinations and procedures.
  4. Document patient data and education according to hospital and department guidelines.
  5. Perform triage functions, including assessing patients and determining next steps in care, in collaboration with the nursing team or providers.
  6. Administer oral and injectable medications or immunizations as per LPN scope and provider directives.
  7. Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients and their families.
  8. Stay informed about hospital policies, procedures, and equipment updates.
  9. Participate in nursing performance improvement activities as assigned.
  10. Ensure awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  11. Provide age-appropriate care, assessing data reflective of the patient's status and interpreting information to identify individual needs.
  12. Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with hospital policies and applicable laws.
  13. Comply with all hospital policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Successful completion of a 30-hour approved IV therapy course within 30 days of hire (for inpatient/SNF positions only).

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current nursing license in the State of Alabama, renewed biennially.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
