Cardiac Telemetry Unit cares for post-operative patients requiring cardiac monitoring and those with unstable cardiac conditions that demand close heart monitoring.
Cardiac Telemetry also takes patients from critical care when patient volumes exceed ICU beds. The Cardiac Telemetry Unit is an excellent place for anyone looking to gain experience with cardiac patients. It is an invaluable starting point for those wishing to work in the Coronary Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU, or the Cath Lab.
Position Summary
Administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, a medical condition, or post-intervention with assessment.
Responsibilities
- Assesses patient needs and develops/revises an individualized plan of care based on patient needs and responses.
- Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
- Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
- Functions as a patient and family advocate.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit/department.
- Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department.
- Serves as a role model for staff and supports the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan, assesses patient data, and interprets necessary information to identify patient-specific requirements.
- Coordinates care and delegates tasks appropriately to other team members on a defined group of patients.
- Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards, including assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety.
- Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit-specific skills.
- Prioritizes patient care in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
- Practices effective problem identification and resolution.
- Delegates tasks to healthcare team members based on patient needs and team member capabilities.
- Communicates patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members appropriately.
- Provides a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families, demonstrating caring practices.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
- Collaborates with education and nursing leadership to support new team members and students.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance per hospital policies and applicable standards.
- Complies with all hospital policies and procedures.
- Contributes to the knowledge and skills of others and participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Participates in and may lead nursing practice and performance improvement committees.
- Engages in departmental peer review, mentoring, and coaching.
- Uses supplies efficiently and maintains a clean, safe, organized work area.
- Attends staff development, department, and nursing committee meetings.
- Partners with nursing leadership to identify professional development needs.
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing professional development and continuing education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.
Licensure/Certification
- Maintains current State of Alabama RN license or valid multistate RN license.
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
