Job summary

McLaren Racing is seeking a Rigs and Component Testing Technician to lead and support testing activities that validate the performance, reliability and compliance of components and systems used on our race cars.

Working across specialist rigs, dynamometers and test beds, you will collaborate with teams across Research and Technology, Production, Design, Vehicle Performance and Quality to sign off components, contribute to durability development and homologation testing for McLaren race cars.

Qualifications

• Experience in vehicle or component testing within a high-performance motorsport, automotive or comparable engineering environment.
• Practical knowledge of hydraulic or servo-mechanical test rigs, actuator systems and associated control platforms such as Zwick, CATS3 or similar.
• The ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation accurately.
• Experience installing and calibrating test instrumentation, acquiring and analysing data, and using platforms such as ATLAS or comparable software.
• An understanding of materials testing, fatigue, durability, component validation and compliance processes, with governing body regulations or acoustic emission techniques advantageous.

Job description

As a Rigs and Component Testing Technician within our Vehicle Test Facilities team, you will lead and support vehicle testing activities that validate the performance, reliability and compliance of components and systems used on our race cars.

Working across specialist rigs, dynamometers and test beds, you will collaborate with teams including Research and Technology, Production, Design, Vehicle Performance and Quality. Your contribution will support component sign-off, structural development, suspension evaluation, durability testing and homologation activities.

What You'll Do

• Conduct characterisation, validation and sign-off testing for brake, suspension, metallic and composite vehicle components.
• Set up, operate and maintain specialist test rigs, instrumentation, strain gauges, sensors and data acquisition systems.
• Monitor, analyse and clearly present test data, producing accurate reports and updating relevant component lifing and database systems.
• Prepare test environments, assemblies and hardware, troubleshooting equipment to ensure safe, reliable and accurate operation.
• Support development, dynamometer, type approval and homologation testing at McLaren and external facilities in the UK and internationally.
