Job summary

McLaren Racing invites applications for a test engineer focused on brake, suspension, and component testing within our high-performance motorsport operation. You will characterise, validate and sign off components using specialist rigs.

You will set up instrumentation, monitor data, prepare test environments, and support dyno and homologation testing across UK and international facilities. The role requires proactive collaboration, precision, and flexibility for occasional extended hours.

Qualifications

• Experience in vehicle or component testing in motorsport or automotive environments.
• Hands-on with hydraulic/servo-mechanical test rigs and actuators.
• Ability to interpret drawings and technical documentation accurately.
• Experience installing/calibrating test instrumentation and analysing data.
• Knowledge of materials testing and durability with regulatory awareness is advantageous.

What You'll Do

• Conduct characterisation, validation and sign-off testing for brake, suspension, metallic and composite vehicle components.
• Set up, operate and maintain specialist test rigs, instrumentation, strain gauges, sensors and data acquisition systems.
• Monitor, analyse and clearly present test data, producing accurate reports and updating relevant component lifing and database systems.
• Prepare test environments, assemblies and hardware, troubleshooting equipment to ensure safe, reliable and accurate operation.
• Support development, dynamometer, type approval and homologation testing at McLaren and external facilities in the UK and internationally.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

• Experience in vehicle or component testing within a high-performance motorsport, automotive or comparable engineering environment.
• Practical knowledge of hydraulic or servo-mechanical test rigs, actuator systems and associated control platforms such as Zwick, CATS3 or similar.
• The ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation accurately.
• Experience installing and calibrating test instrumentation, acquiring and analysing data, and using platforms such as ATLAS or comparable software.
• An understanding of materials testing, fatigue, durability, component validation and compliance processes, with governing body regulations or acoustic emission techniques advantageous.
