Job summary

McLaren Racing is seeking a Suspension Design Engineer to lead the concept and detailed design of brake thermal management systems for Formula One cars. You will work at the interface of Aerodynamics, Suspension, Vehicle Design, Structural Analysis and Manufacturing to deliver lightweight, reliable engineering solutions from development to upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing mechanical and composite components in a high-performance engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, structural design and mechanical systems.
  • Excellent 3D CAD modelling and ability to produce engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of composite design, tooling and manufacturing methods.
  • Strong 3D spatial awareness and ability to solve complex packaging challenges.
  • Experience with the full design lifecycle and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar is advantageous but not essential.

  • Design composite and metallic brake thermal management components and assemblies from concept through to release.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex packaging and integration challenges within highly constrained design environments.
  • Translate aerodynamic requirements into robust, lightweight and manufacturable designs.
  • Collaborate with Aerodynamics, Vehicle Design, Structural Analysis, Manufacturing, Test and Race Engineering teams.
  • Produce high-quality CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Support manufacture, build, testing and race activities, resolving issues as they arise.
  • Investigate reliability concerns and deliver effective engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of new technologies, design methods and engineering standards.

Job Description

As a Suspension Design Engineer, you will lead the concept and detailed design of innovative brake thermal management systems for our Formula One race cars.

Working at the interface of Aerodynamics, Suspension, Vehicle Design, Structural Analysis and Manufacturing, you’ll transform aerodynamic concepts into lightweight, reliable and manufacturable engineering solutions. From new car development to in-season upgrades, you’ll solve complex packaging challenges and contribute directly to on-track performance.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar advantageous but not essential
