Job summary

Farleigh Hospice in Maldon is seeking a commercially minded Retail Assistant Manager to lead our Maldon clearance shop and donation centre, delivering excellent customer service and strong visual presentation. You will recruit, train and motivate volunteers, manage cash handling, meet sales and Gift Aid targets, and ensure health and safety standards while working with a friendly, community-focused team.

Retail Assistant Manager

Location: Maldon

Farleigh Hospice is a high-performing organisation providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care for people with life-limiting illnesses across Mid Essex. As our retail team continues to grow and evolve to meet the changing needs of our community, we are looking for a highly motivated Retail Assistant Manager to join our Maldon clearance shop and donation centre.

To succeed in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

• Strong leadership and team management skills
• The ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers
• Excellent customer service skills
• A sales-focused approach and strong commercial awareness
• Confidence in visual merchandising and shop-floor presentation
• Experience of sorting and pricing donations and rotating stock
• Cash-handling, banking and basic financial management skills
• The ability to organise and prioritise in a fast-paced environment
• Clear verbal and written communication skills
• A confident, solutions-focused approach to decision-making
• The drive to meet sales and Gift Aid targets
• Awareness of health and safety, safeguarding and security
• Good IT and administrative skills
• Flexibility, resilience and a willingness to work weekends
