Job summary

Umami is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to join our restaurant team in the United Kingdom. You will support the General Manager in daily operations, lead the team to maintain high service standards, manage schedules, and assist with budgeting and promotions.

Ideal candidates will have proven leadership in hospitality, strong customer service focus, and the ability to train staff while ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Assistant Manager or supervisor in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
• Strong understanding of restaurant operations, front-of-house and back-of-house.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and support team members.

Responsibilities

• Assist the General Manager and Deputy General Manager in daily restaurant operations to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
• Oversee and support staff to meet service standards and performance expectations.
• Assist with staff training, development and performance management to improve skills.
• Assist in inventory management, ordering supplies and stock control to minimize waste and costs.
• Create staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and optimize labor costs.
• Monitor compliance with food safety, sanitation standards and local health regulations.
• Handle guest complaints professionally to maintain customer satisfaction.
• Support day-to-day financial operations including tracking sales and budgeting.
• Contribute to restaurant promotions and events to drive traffic and sales.
• Recruiting and onboarding new team members and providing training.
