Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Resources Casework Team at Guildford Borough Council.

The team provides excellent support services to the council, focusing on Finance business support, and acts as the first point of contact for advice and support to internal and external customers. The post holder will respond to and resolve support service requests using established systems, processes, and workflows for all council teams.

We are seeking a self-motivated individual who can work well within a team and also use their own initiative. You should demonstrate excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and a strong customer focus to ensure high standards of support and advice. The ability to multitask and work across different functional areas is advantageous.

What you’ll do on a typical day:
  • Process 'tell us once' notifications
  • Review and respond to transfer enquiries
  • Open and sort mail
  • Set up Direct Debits
  • Investigate and resolve unpaid Direct Debits
  • Manage recurring invoices and subscriptions
  • Issue debt recovery letters
  • Identify write-offs
  • Set up payment plans
  • Manage and approve customer amendments and new customers
  • Respond to internal and external enquiries
  • Clear daily suspense accounts
  • Process refunds
  • Make invoice corrections
  • Perform additional duties as required by management
What you will need to succeed:
  • Strong team working skills
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs, including passes at level 4 or above in English and Maths
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to report clearly and concisely, especially on complex issues
  • Willingness to develop competence in various IT systems and packages
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse social, economic, and professional backgrounds
  • Previous experience in an AR/AP/Finance environment is beneficial but not essential

The role requires an agile working approach. Roles are typically appointed at the bottom of the pay scale.
