Job summary

Principle HR is seeking a research-level Linguist for AI & multilingual research, working at the intersection of theoretical linguistics and multilingual AI/NLP. You will analyse model outputs, build evaluation datasets and contribute to responsible AI in a globally multilingual context.

The role emphasizes deep linguistic expertise, Python (pandas), SQL querying, and collaboration with ML/NLP engineers and data scientists. Fully remote UK-based contract through December 2027.

Qualifications

• Completed PhD in Linguistics or a closely related field (PhD fully completed).
• Deep research-level knowledge of general/theoretical linguistics (typology, syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics).
• Python is essential; comfortable with data-science notebooks and pandas.

Responsibilities

• Analyse large linguistic datasets and AI model outputs, identifying frequent linguistic errors.
• Build, refine and test evaluation datasets covering translation, linguistic reasoning, spontaneous speech, and pronoun resolution.
• Conduct typological, sociolinguistic and corpus-based research across languages.
