Job summary

Genomics is seeking a Research Engineer to join our Science Software team in London/Oxford on a hybrid basis. You will apply quantitative methods to large-scale genetic data, develop and maintain Life Sciences tools, and implement algorithms across the platform to deliver robust software for drug discovery.

You will contribute to analyses, collaborate with domain experts, and advance genomics analytics while staying current with best practices in computational biology.

Qualifications

• PhD or postgraduate degree in a scientific field, preferably genomics, bioinformatics or computational biology.
• Strong Python coding skills and modern software development practices.
• Experience analyzing large-scale biological data and describing results.
• Experience with HPC or cloud environments and Linux.
• Experience with containers (Docker, Singularity).
• Experience with version control and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Apply quantitative methods to large-scale genetic data within a collaborative team.
• Develop and maintain in-house Life Sciences tools and pipelines.
• Implement algorithms from Life Sciences teams into robust, tested software.
• Run high-quality analyses of large biological datasets using existing or bespoke tools.
• Present findings to scientists and stakeholders.
• Keep current with genomics, data science, and scientific computing practices.
• At IC3 level, lead cross-tool integration projects with teams.
