Job summary

Centrica's Energised Futures team seeks a Research Engineer – Connectivity & Smart Devices to explore how connected devices, protocols and interoperability standards can accelerate the energy transition in the UK.

You will prototype connectivity solutions for smart energy devices, including EV chargers, heat pumps and home energy systems, working with researchers, architects and industry partners to deliver demonstrator projects and practical recommendations.

Qualifications

• Curious and practical research engineer with strong networking, programming and connected devices experience.
• Ability to design, run and document technical experiments and demonstrations.
• Experience translating technical findings into clear recommendations for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Research emerging connectivity technologies and interoperability standards.
• Design and run experiments to evaluate performance, security and scalability for energy applications.
• Build PoC systems using Raspberry Pi, edge gateways and smart devices.
• Develop software for device communication, data acquisition and testing; connect devices to edge/cloud platforms.
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers and external partners; produce technical reports and demonstrator documentation.
• Contribute to publications, conferences and industry engagements where appropriate.
