Job summary

University of Sheffield’s Lin Lab is seeking up to two Research Associates to study neural circuits in fruit flies (Drosophila). You design, perform and analyse experiments, write papers, and present findings at conferences.

The role requires a PhD or near completion with strong skills in imaging, genetics, electrophysiology, and computational modelling. Hybrid working and collaboration within a diverse team are encouraged.

Qualifications

• PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field.
• Significant experience with imaging, genetics, electrophysiology or behavioural assays.
• Strong communication and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to plan, lead and complete scientific projects.

Responsibilities

• Record neural activity in Drosophila using imaging or electrophysiology.
• Design protocols to induce plasticity via learning.
• Conduct behavioural experiments relating neural activity to behavior.
• Create transgenic fly lines through crossing schemes.
• Analyse data with established or novel methods.
