Job summary

The University of Sheffield invites applications for up to two Research Associates to study neural circuits in the fruit fly, Drosophila, in Andrew Lin’s lab. You will design, conduct, and analyse experiments using imaging, electrophysiology, genetics and modelling.

We seek self-motivated researchers with a PhD (or near completion) and strong communication skills who can work independently and in a team. Full-time, fixed-term until 10 October 2029, based in Sheffield.

Qualifications

• PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field.
• Significant experience in live in vivo calcium imaging and Drosophila genetics.
• Experience in electrophysiology and behavioural experiments.
• Computational modelling of neural circuits and data analysis.
• Ability to design and build custom equipment.

Responsibilities

• Record neural activity in Drosophila using imaging and/or electrophysiology.
• Design protocols to induce neuronal plasticity via learning and/or homeostatic plasticity.
• Carry out behavioural experiments to measure learning and relate neural activity to behaviour.
• Design and execute Drosophila crossing schemes to create transgenic lines.
• Analyse data using established methods or develop new analysis tools.
• Set up and maintain lab equipment and prepare papers for publication.
