Job summary

The University of Sheffield invites applications for up to two Research Associates in the Lin Lab to study brain function in Drosophila. You will design, perform and analyse experiments, publish findings, and present at conferences within a collaborative team environment.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant field, with experience in neural imaging, electrophysiology, genetics, and computational modelling.

Qualifications

• PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field.
• Experience in live in vivo calcium imaging or electrophysiology.
• Knowledge of Drosophila genetics and behavioural assays.
• Experience in computational modelling of neural circuits.
• Proficiency in computer programming and data analysis.
• Ability to design and build custom lab equipment.

Responsibilities

• Record neural activity in Drosophila using imaging and/or electrophysiology.
• Design and carry out protocols to induce neuronal plasticity.
• Carry out behavioural experiments to measure learning and relate neural activity to behaviour.
• Design and carry out crossing schemes to create transgenic flies.
• Analyse data using established methods or develop new analyses.
• Supervise research activities and coordinate with team members.
