Job summary

Broxtowe Borough Council is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Housing Repairs Inspector to join the Repairs team. You will spend most of your time visiting properties to inspect required repairs, explain work needed to tenants and leaseholders, and set realistic timescales for completion.

Job description

SALARY Grade 9 £36,960 - £38,805 per annumFull time 37 hoursPermanent

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and customer-focused individual, who can fulfil this challenging but rewarding role within the Council’s Housing Repairs team.

In this role you will spend the majority of your time visiting properties to inspect required repairs or defects. You will use your strong communication skills to liaise with tenants and leaseholders in regards to repairs in their home, including providing full explanations of work required, and realistic timescales for completion.

Using the knowledge you have gained from working in a similar role, you will ensure correct diagnosis of repair issues, and trades and materials required to complete the work, so that work can be completed at first visit. Working with the wider Repairs team to ensure that work is booked, you will promptly record outcome of inspections on the housing management system, providing detailed notes and photographs.

You will also raise works orders for external contractors for specialist works or urgent works that are unable to be completed in-house. You will build positive working relationships so that work is completed promptly and to a high standard.

We’re looking for an individual who has experience in:

  • Undertaking property inspections
  • Working with tenants and leaseholders
  • Working in a team
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders including colleagues from other departments
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have a qualification in building surveying or considerable experience working in a housing repairs team
  • Have strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Have strong ICT skills
  • Be enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Have a flexible approach to meet the needs of a demanding service
