Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain. Remotely within the EMEA region, you will help shape the long-term data strategy and build scalable platforms powering analytics, ML, and subscriber insights for hundreds of millions of users.

You will lead architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and work with Product, Data Science, and Platform teams to deliver high-impact data solutions while balancing performance and cost.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Experience designing reliable distributed data pipelines and data models.
• Strong understanding of data quality, governance, and metadata practices.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms for analytics, experimentation, ML, and subscriber experiences.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams to deliver durable data solutions.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices for data quality, governance, observability, and reliability.
• Design data models and platform architecture to support growth toward one billion users.
• Simplify complex systems, reduce technical debt, and improve developer experience across the data ecosystem.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering and collaboration.
