Turnitin is seeking a self-sufficient Software Engineering Manager for a UK Remote role. You will lead globally distributed engineering teams, align with product managers, and drive high-impact delivery in a remote-first culture.

This leadership position emphasizes people growth, accountability, and engineering excellence across multiple products. The role requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, hands-on engineering experience, and a proven track record in scalable software

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
• Experience collaborating across time zones and geographies with a flexible working style.
• Hands-on engineering with modern software development practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with globally distributed teams.
• Proven project management experience to prioritise and deliver multiple initiatives.
• Deep understanding of software development methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Leadership experience across multiple engineering teams including hiring and mentoring.
• Coaching and mentoring of individual contributors and peers.
• Ability to influence and motivate teams to achieve top performance.
• Hands-on experience with scalable front-end and back-end applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead and empower engineering teams across globally distributed groups, aligning with objectives and driving high-impact results.
• Provide people management and development through regular feedback, 1:1s, and a culture of psychological safety.
• Define, drive, and deliver technical roadmaps and milestones with cross-functional partners.
• Offer technical leadership and oversight with the Tech Lead across the product lifecycle.
• Use metrics to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Stay current with tools and practices, proposing innovations to leadership.
• Promote transparency, regular communication, and alignment with the company's vision.
• Own the software quality and delivery, modeling responsibility and accountability.
• Collaborate with product, UX, security, DevOps, and customer success teams.
