Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Data Privacy Lawyer for a fully remote legal team, advising on GDPR, POPIA and related regimes across international operations.

You will lead the development of privacy policies, manage DPIAs and DSARs, handle data breach responses, and train staff on privacy best practices in a fast-moving technology environment.

You'll operate in a remote-first environment, collaborate with a global legal team, and influence privacy governance for a leading tech company.

Qualifications

• LLB degree or equivalent with admission to practice law.
• Minimum 7 years of experience specializing in data privacy and protection law.
• In-depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other international data privacy regulations.
• Proven experience drafting privacy policies, notices, and consent mechanisms.
• Experience conducting DPIAs and managing DSARs.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and data breach response.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures globally.
• Advise business units on data protection compliance related to new products, services, and marketing initiatives.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
• Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and ensure timely responses.
• Oversee data breach incident response protocols and reporting obligations.
• Provide training and awareness programs on data privacy to employees.
• Liaise with Data Protection Authorities and regulatory bodies as required.
• Review and negotiate data processing agreements (DPAs) and other privacy-related contracts.
• Stay abreast of global data privacy laws and best practices, including POPIA, GDPR, CCPA, etc.
• Contribute to the development of privacy-by-design principles within the organization.
