Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Remote Legal Counsel with a focus on data privacy to join its legal team. The role involves advising on GDPR/POPIA, drafting privacy policies, and leading data breach responses in a fully remote capacity.

The ideal candidate holds South Africa’s High Court admission or an international equivalent, with 5+ years of data privacy experience, and will work with an international team across multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data privacy and data protection law.
• Knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and major international privacy regulations.
• Experience drafting privacy policies and data processing agreements.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on data privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity matters globally.
• Develop, review, and update privacy policies, notices, and procedures.
• Conduct DPIAs and advise on privacy by design principles.
• Manage data breach incidents, including investigation, notification, and remediation.
• Advise on cross-border data transfers and international privacy compliance.
• Review and advise on commercial contracts with privacy clauses.
• Stay abreast of evolving global data privacy laws and regulatory guidance.
• Train internal teams on data privacy obligations and best practices.
