Placements24 is seeking a skilled Remote Legal Counsel with a focus on data privacy to join its legal team. The role involves advising on GDPR/POPIA, drafting privacy policies, and leading data breach responses in a fully remote capacity.

The ideal candidate holds South Africa’s High Court admission or an international equivalent, with 5+ years of data privacy experience, and will work with an international team across multiple jurisdictions.

Our client, a globally recognized technology firm, is actively seeking a talented and dedicated Remote Legal Counsel with a specialization in data privacy to join their expanding legal department. This position is crucial for ensuring the company's compliance with global data protection regulations, including POPIA, GDPR, and other relevant privacy laws. The ideal candidate will provide expert legal advice on data privacy matters, develop and implement privacy policies, and manage data breach responses. Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on data privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity matters globally.
• Develop, review, and update privacy policies, notices, and procedures.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and advise on privacy by design principles.
• Manage data breach incidents, including investigation, notification, and remediation.
• Advise on cross-border data transfers and international privacy compliance.
• Review and advise on commercial contracts with a focus on data processing agreements and privacy clauses.
• Stay abreast of evolving global data privacy laws and regulatory guidance.
• Train internal teams on data privacy obligations and best practices.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa or equivalent international qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with a strong focus on data privacy and data protection law.
• In-depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other major international privacy regulations.
• Experience drafting and implementing privacy policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with privacy compliance frameworks and risk management.
• Excellent analytical, research, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results in a remote setting.
