Tailscale is seeking a skilled and diligent Software Engineer to join our Control Plane Team. You will work on distributed systems, contribute to open source client code and backend services, and collaborate with UX/UI designers and product managers to shape features.

This remote-first role offers a UK-friendly package with a pay range of £128,770–£178,540 and a strong benefits program, including equity, retirement contributions, and health coverage.

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed systems.
• Proficiency in the Go programming language.
• Experience with one or more SQL databases.
• Familiarity with networking concepts (IP addressing, routing).
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and document core software components.
• Develop features for the control plane, relay infrastructure, and identity integrations.
• Own running services, observability, incident response, and support escalations.
• Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of systems.
• Apply a security-first mindset to design and implementation.
