Job summary

Carlisle Support Services has an exciting opportunity for Relief Security Officers to work at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. You will be the first line of security, patrolling and assisting staff and visitors in a fast-paced hospital setting.

We offer flexible hours, full induction, ongoing training, and a supportive team. If you hold an SIA licence or are awaiting one, you are encouraged to apply. Training and kit are provided.

Qualifications

• Check-able work history for past 5 years and compliance with UK Home Office standards.
• Proven work experience as a Security Officer or in a customer service role.
• SIA licence holders (Guarding or Door Supervision) or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Be aware of on-site activity and follow handover procedures.
• Respond to emergencies and escalation procedures as first point of contact.
• Secure the site, control access and carry out patrols to deter crime.
• Liaise with NHS staff and assist in emergencies.
• Maintain control room/gatehouse reception systems on shift.

We have vacancies for exceptional customer focused Relief Security Officers to work on behalf of Carlisle Support Services at Lister Hospital in Stevenage to cover shifts on an ad hoc basis as required. We’re Looking For People Who Are

• Friendly, approachable, and professional in all interactions.

• Experienced in customer‑facing roles or interested in building those skills.
• At least 18 years old – licence requirement by the Security Industry Authority.
• Punctual, dependable, flexible, and assured.
• SIA Guarding or Door Supervision licence holders.

Previous experience in security is great, but if you’ve only recently got your SIA licence that’s fine. What’s just as important is your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. We will provide all the training and support you need to succeed. Our goal is to help you to become a valued member of the Carlisle team.

Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To

• Be aware of what’s happening on-site at all times by following the handover procedure and reviewing information from previous shifts.
• Be aware of the relevant emergency and escalation procedures, as the first point of contact when an incident occurs.
• Secure the site by controlling access and egress, carrying out security patrols to deter crime.
• Be aware of hazards, reacting to medical incidents and responding appropriately.
• Ensure the control room/gatehouse is kept clean and tidy for the next shift.
• Operate the control room/gatehouse and reception systems.
• Physically fit as the role requires a degree of patrolling.
• Liaising with NHS staff.
• Responding to emergency bleeps.
• Responding to hig risk situation deal with members of the public in hospital.
• Hospital security experience preferred.
• Restraining patients if necessary if they become violent.
• Protection of NHS staff, equipment and other patients.

Attributes

• Provide a check-able work history for the past 5 Years and meet UK Home Office Security Screening Standards.
• Proven work experience as a Security Officer or in a customer service role.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite - especially Excel & Word.
• Previous experience with office equipment.
• Professional attitude and appearance.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to be calm and professional when issues arise and deal with patients.
• Multitasking and time-management skills
