Job summary

Wilson James is seeking a Relief Security Officer to cover core team absences and holidays at our Southampton locations. The role involves patrolling premises, monitoring CCTV and access points, and responding to incidents to ensure staff, visitors and assets remain secure.

The ideal candidate will hold a current SIA licence, demonstrate strong observational skills and communicate effectively with colleagues and authorities.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current SIA licence (DS/SIA) and proven security experience.
• Strong observational skills with the ability to identify and respond to security threats.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, visitors and authorities.
• Ability to stay calm and act decisively in high-pressure situations.
• Flexible to work various shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes staff and visitors and maintains a safe, professional atmosphere.
• Conducts regular patrols and monitors premises to prevent unauthorised access, theft or vandalism.
• Monitors access points, CCTV and security procedures.
• Responds promptly to alarms, emergencies and security incidents and takes appropriate action.
• Completes detailed reports on daily activities, incidents and security concerns.

In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring premises, conducting patrols, responding to incidents, and ensuring that security protocols are upheld at all times. About the Role:

As a Relief Security Officer, you will be responsible for:

• Welcoming staff and visitors and creating a safe, professional atmosphere
• Conducting regular patrols and monitor premises to prevent unauthorised access, theft, or vandalism.
• Monitoring access points, CCTV, and handling security procedures
• Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents, taking appropriate action as needed.
• Complete detailed reports on daily activities, incidents, and any security concerns.
• Assist in emergency situations, including evacuations and first aid support if required.
• Adapting to different client sites – no two days are the same
• Responding calmly and confidently to incidents or concerns
• Working as part of a diverse, supportive team

What we are looking for:

• To hold a current DS SIA Licence
• Proven experience in a security role or a similar position.
• Strong observational skills with the ability to identify and respond to security threats.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, visitors, and authorities.
• Ability to remain calm and act decisively in high-pressure situations.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
