Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is recruiting Employability Support Workers to provide practical work-based learning for adults with disabilities, helping trainees gain skills and experience to move into voluntary or paid employment, while respecting their individual needs and choices. The relief role is on a zero-hours contract, with shift hours 8:50am to 4pm, Monday to Friday (some flexibility possible).

Interviews will be held w/c 12th and 19th October 2026.

• Experience in a customer facing role promoting skills for those individuals with a disability.
• Ability to demonstrate baking cakes and pastries, as this will be tested at interview.

About the role

We have a unique opportunity for additional support workers to join our team to provide practical support for work led and experience-based learning for adults with disabilities.

The Employability Support Workers support individuals to gain the skills and experience to enable them to move to voluntary or paid work and provide practical support, training, and encouragement so that trainees can build on their own skills and abilities whilst respecting their individual needs and choices.

The role will be on a relief basis to cover stafff absences with working hours between 8.50am - 4pm Monday to Friday (some flexibility may be required depending on service need).

Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. As this is a relief post on a zero-hours contract, it does not meet the salary or eligibility requirements for sponsorship.

What will you be doing?

The Supporting into Work service provides work-based learning opportunities for adults with disabilities across Cambridgeshire. We currently deliver employability projects in March, Ely, and Huntingdon, including Community Cafés in March (two locations), Ely, and Huntingdon, as well as TAG Bikes, our cycle refurbishment and retail project based in Huntingdon.

You will support with skills in baking and preparing products for sale, handling of payments and promoting excellent customer service as the trainees work towards employment and developing life skills.

Due to the nature of the work and the working environment the post holder will often be lone working and will not readily have support and/or supervision available. You will therefore need to be able to respond immediately to emergency situations or other challenging situations by assessing the situation as it rises and the consequence level of risk to the service user and others.

About you

You will have an awareness of working with people with learning and/or physical disabilities, experience in a customer facing role and promoting skills for those individuals with a disability. You will be flexible and adaptable as the service grows and develops.

You will be able to demonstrate skills with baking cakes and pastries as this is a large part of the role and will be tested as part of the interview.

Interviews will be held at each of our locations w/c 12th and 19th October 2026.
